School of Education Book Drive Celebrates National Literacy Month

This September the School of Education invites the 橘子视频community to come together to celebrate National Literacy Month with a cultural literacy book drive. This book drive is aimed at promoting reading and supporting literacy programs in St. Louis-area schools.
The event, organized by School of Education graduate student Glenda Nelson and School of Education Assistant Dean Benton M. Brown, Ph.D., will run through September 30.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to donate new or gently used books, with all donations going to local schools, shelters, and literacy programs. Children鈥檚 books, novels, and educational materials written by individuals from various backgrounds, and which celebrate those from diverse cultures and identities are in high demand. Drop-offs are located in Fitzgerald Hall and several other SOE-labeled boxes on campus.
"This book drive is a wonderful opportunity for us to not only promote literacy, but also to foster a deeper appreciation for diverse voices in literature," Brown said. "It鈥檚 a meaningful way to give back to the community and make a lasting impact in local schools."
Volunteers will also host story time sessions and reading challenges throughout the month to engage both children and adults in the joy of reading.
"Literacy is the foundation for all learning, and through efforts like this, we hope to support St. Louis students in their educational journey,," said Dean Gary Ritter, Ph.D. "Our goal is to spark a love for reading and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our community strong."
